9.6%…

The official U-3 unemployment rate is now 9.6%, up a tick from the 9.5% we saw last report. However, private employers added 67,000 jobs in August, while July’s numbers were revised upwards to 107,000 private sector positions and June numbers were also adjusted to 61,000.

CO2 and GDP

CO2 emissions fell with the economy last year! CO2 emissions had fallen 3% in 2008, but multiple factors account for the fall last year. As the Ars Technica article states, the drop in emissions wasn’t completely attributable to the fall in GDP; some of the fall was due to trends that may continue in the next few years towards higher mileage cars and cleaner industries.

Which Political Demographics Watch Which Sports?

From the offbeat category comes this awesome data set found through the National Journal. Scarborough USA, a joint undertaking of market research companies Nielsen and Arbitron surveyed 218,000 people between August 2008 and September 2009 to try to figure out the political leanings of sports viewers. Surveyors tried to figure out both how viewers self-identified politically, and also their likelihood to vote. This data has been published, and here is is (on ManyEyes!) for you to play with!
