The median hours volunteered for men with children is 50 hours, vs. 52 without. For women, it's 45 hours with children vs. 52 without. Interesting! Most people with kids volunteer at their school or sell stuff for their kid's schools. I know very few who actually volunteer beyond their own children's interests. I think a lot of it has to do with opportunity, as well as changing priorities. I know that when I was younger I spent the majority of my time either working or hanging out with friends. I did a little Habitat for Humanity, but that was just as much social and to learn more about home improvement as it was volunteering. My daughter is too young to be involved in youth activities (7 months), but I know that I will be more inclined to volunteer for those types of activities once she begins participating in them.
