Writing checks to charities, as covered in previous articles is one way to give to your top causes. However, it’s not the only way for you to make a difference to your non-profit of choice.
Lace Up Your Running Shoes
If you want to do something interesting beyond writing a check, there are plenty of opportunities for you to trade your time to improve the standings of a charity. Running, biking, and building homes are but a subset of the activities you can do in lieu of a monetary donation.
True; fundamentally, many time donations also include a monetary aspect. In many cases, you can run races (including the ever popular half marathon) and bike for your cause. In those cases, you generally will have to put up an entrance fee. The entrance fee is made up of money from your sponsors and any extra you added on your own. The fee is split between the event organizer and the charity you are representing in the race.
Service and Charity
Of course, not all charitable giving is money related. Some charities allow you to give your time and skills to improve the lives of others. One well known charity which allows service donations is Habitat for Humanity. Swing a hammer and raise a house with other individuals!
Destination charities are also an interesting opportunity. See the world and base your trip around improving the lives of others! What’s not to like? Check out charity vacations at places like Charity Guide and see what you can find!
Often non-monetary donations are the best kind. Your thoughts?
