Thanks to the Committee for a Responsible Public Budget, you too can play Dictator/a for a day! It’s no surprise that the United States has a high national debt. The United States has around $13 trillion in public debts. The United States is also the largest economic engine in the world, with a GDP of $14.2 trillion in 2009. How would you balance the expenditures of the government? (Click it, it’s fun!)
The simulator is a fun one… you can see the estimates of the costs of each program and the “consequences” (yeah, those are scare quotes) of each tax-cut decision. It’s important to note that, as much of the estimates for the costs of government programs come from the Congressional Budget Office, the estimates typically done are static (vs dynamic, where government policy is assumed to change economic behavior). Even with the caveats, it’s fun to dictate for a day – go wild and play with the largest economy in the world!
